Week #32-Beaster Bunny

Hello woman! (Jesus called the women that he loved "woman" so don´t worry it is very affectionate) Wow the Holy Week is literally the least holy week that has ever existed. The traditions here are literally insane! I have never been more shocked. Wednesday the people ran around and celebrated Judas! Why would anybody ever celebrate him! They carry a doll around that looks like Judas and ask for money from people so that they can by more alcohol! It is brilliant but I don´t know why the people pay them. I tried to take pictures, but the drunk people get mad when you don´t pay and you take pictures and I sure as heck wasn´t going to pay so they could down another fifth of cheap vodka! also they literally crucify people. The don´t kill them but they tie them to a cross and whip them and stuff. What a great place.
Yeah we tried contacting pretty much this whole week because most of the members just wanted to sleep all day and not help us or they were at the beach. "Let´s go to the beach, beach let´s go to the beach" - Niki Manaje (I think) But yeah everyone had work off so I was like "sweet everyone has work off so lets find some new people!" Well that is not how it worked ha ha! The streets of Compromiso were literally empty! And it was hotter than a beefy crunch burrito outside! Somebody told me that it got up to 37 degrees which would maybe be cool if I knew what that meant ha ha. The F degrees are better than the C degrees I have realized. But the good news is that La Semana Santa is pretty much the hottest time of the year and now it is over and now it is going to rain for 800000 days.
There was this kid bugging me in church yesterday and I have the awesome hand sanatizer that Shalese sent me attached to my bag. So the little kid asked me what it was and I told him it was candy from the U.S.A. and then of course he asked me for some and I debated if I should give him some or not and the mean side took over me and I gave him a little drop of it. He looked at his hand for a good 10 seconds debating if it was candy or not and licked it off ha ha! His face instantly turned into a face of saddness. Through my uncontrolable laughter I asked him if he liked it and he nodded his head! I laughed so hard but felt kind of bad. I bet he won´t ever bug me again.
Yesterday was my companions birthday! I felt bad for him because the members said that they were going to make him a cake but they forgot. I felt really bad. So I gave him 50 Quetzales and told him to go wild. Also I memorized The Living Christ in Spanish because Presidente Ruiz asked all of us to do it. So I did it and he asked me and my companion to present it in sacrament meeting yesterday. My companion on the other hand did not memorize it so he just tried to read along with me while I recited it but he got way lost and just muttered inaudible words the whole time ha ha! It was terrible but I felt good that I memorized all of it! Good stuff.
Anyways I am shocked to hear about Antwan Blake! He was awesome! I loved him at corner! They better draft a corner this year! When is the draft? Also nice picture of Titan! It looks like he was sniffing too much vinegar ha ha! Anyways I love you! I hope your easter was good! Email me fast! I might have changes this week.

Week #31

So I have good news! And kind of sad news. So finally today we went to the amusement park here in Guatemala because our zone is doing really good right now so the President let us go to Xetulu! It was fun. But the sad news is the missionary who was the AP when I got into the field in october got shot and killed yesterday which is really sad. His name is Elder Fifita and he obviously finished his mission in October but he was driving a car in Los Angeles, home from a church dance and I have no idea why but some gangsters shot at the car and ended up killing him. The President was heartbroken today. I remember Elder Fifita. He was the first missionary I talked to when I got here. He was a way good missionary. Anyways he has two cousins in the mission so they cut Xetulu short. But its rough. I couldn´t believe it when they told us.
But it was a really good week. We baptized Na and Hu on Friday which was actually kind of sad because when we went to their house to take them to the church none of their family wanted to come and watch! I was so mad (like the Neo song)! The dad and their three brothers and sister didn´t even come! And the bishop told me that he was going to come but I called him and he told me that he couldn´t anymore like 2 minutes before the service started and didn´t give me a reason why. I have faith that the leaders are chosen by God in every ward and branch in the world but they are so lazy here in Guatemala. I told the bishop that I should be bishop! Just kidding that is prideful but true! Anyways it was really good inspite of the fact that there were only like 2 of us at the baptism.
Another miracle that happened is that Fe who we baptized the week before showed up Sunday to get confirmed! So I don´t know if you knew this but converts are baptized during the week and then confirmed the following sunday during sacrament meeting. But she didn´t show up last week the day after her baptism and if you go two weeks after without getting confirmed you have to baptize them again which really sucks because it is like the first baptism didn´t even happen. So we went to her house early in the morning to bring her to church and her little sister told us that she had already left to go to the church so we left to go to church. We got there at 8 o´clock and of course there were only  two people in the whole chapel. And she wasn´t answering her phone! I was so mad! But she showed up during sacrament (and they have a rule here that if you show up during the sacrament you can´t enter the chapel or receive the sacrament outside of the chapel! I told them that rule is stupid but nobody cares about my opinion.) But apparently she got robbed the night before and that is why she didn´t have her cell phone but good crap, am I right?
You totally dropped stones in the Styx concert!!!! It´s literally a rule that you have to acknowledge the Steelers when they play Renegade! But hopefully you redeemed yourself by doing the robot when they played Mr. Roboto. Also I have many pictures this week so buckle up!
Love you and email me fast! I laughed my face off about the Josh baseball thing! (The local newspaper had an article that showed a picture of his friend, Josh, that stated the high school baseball team, lead by Josh C., are headed to the baseball playoffs-Josh is serving a mission in Honduras, haha)

Week #30

Hey! Sorry this is kind of late! And it is even later because the whole day light savings thing! But this week was so stressful but awesome!
So we had been teaching this young lady named F and it is a really weird story because she is a reference from this guy in our ward and she is 14 years old. But get this her boyfriend, who is the member who gave us the reference, is 22 years old. He went on  mission for 2 weeks and came back because he got really sick from being away from home (Guatemalans pretty much never leave their city in their entire lives). But yeah he is 9 years older than her and she is literally 14 years old. I was so shocked. She was born in this millennium. But we´d been teaching her for a while and this week we got permission from her parents to baptize her. So Saturday when we were getting ready for the baptism she called us and told us that she had lost the permission slip thing (my fault I shouldn´t have left it with her) and her parents pretty much don´t live in her house and we can´t baptize anyone without permission. But by some miracle we were walking by a bar and there was her dad ready to buy a beer! So we got the permission again! I don´t like baptizing kids without their parents but there was nothing that we could do. She wanted to do it so we did it.
We met some less active members this week and one of them is really sick! She has really weak bones so just when she walks the bones at the bottom of her leg bends. So her leg looks like rubber at the bottom. Well she has a really weak immune system as well and she got bit by a mosquito that had zica so she was pretty much dying. So we gave her a blessing and the next day she got healed. But she told us that there were a ton of her family members that had died that were with her when she was really sick waiting for her to die! But crazy stuff!
Today was a good day. They got permission to watch that new movie Zootopia so we watched an awesome bootlegged version of it on the TV in the church. It was literally the most frustrating thing of all time! It was surely not Jerry Seinfeld quality. I think it would´ve been an awesome movie if it wasn´t in Spanish and if the guy who filmed it didn´t have parkinsons. But it was still funny. The guys who work at the DMV are sloths! How classic! You have to see it!
Anyways nothing new. I found out how to take out my money from my debit card so that is good. And I hope everything went well with free agency! Ladarius Green is cool but I will miss Health Miller! And why would Eric Weddle not choose the Steelers! How awful! But such is life! I´m glad to hear that you did well on your talk! I wish I could have heard it! You always do good on your talks! And Kelsey too!
Anyways love you and email me fast!
I got sick this week which was funny but I feel better! the thing that I am most sick with is the lack of Taylor Swift! yesterday a less active showed me that she came out with a new song and I almost cried because I didn´t know. When I come back home I am only going to listen to Taylor Swift.
Vendor carts sit outside the church and wait for church to get over in hopes people will buy stuff. Bryson said "Satan is tempting people to buy stuff on Sunday." Ha!

Week #29

Hey mom! To start! I sent you pictures of me last week! I swear it! Ha ha I bought those pants in the MegaPaca for 2 dollars! And the shirt was a little more expensive but it was fun (in the last picture from last week, the pic where they are wearing roller blades, Bryson is wearing the most ridiculous outfit, that's why he sent me an explanation). My ankles were bleeding this whole week from skating! I probably have cankles now. I don´t even know what cankles are but it seems like nobody ever wants them! I want them.
So I have a lot of good stories this week. I will chose three to tell. So we found a new investigator this week named Daniel and he has the nicest Chiuawa (how the freak do you spell it?) of all time! It made Pitt look like Hitler (Pit is our family chihuahau). But anyways he is a really good kid! He got in a motorcycle accident a little while ago and he ended up killing his aunt and his two cousins which is really sad and he was in the hospital for like two months. We taught him the plan of salvation and all that and get this! When I called him in the  morning to see if he was ready to go to church, he told me he had been waiting for us since 6 o´clock because he didn´t want to disappoint us! He woke up at five to go to 8 o´clock church! He is so funny when we came into the church with him he went up to every person and said hi! And he was trying to talk with me during all of the sacrament! It was so classic!
Another thing that is sad but kind of funny is that I was teaching a family of investigators outside of their house yesterday because their family has a baptism date for the 19th. And this guy who is a less active that we have been working with stumbles up to us completely hammered! And I was in the  middle of teaching The Word of Wisdom! So the dude comes up to me and I was really sad because he is a member that we have been working with for a long time and I have never seen anybody so hammered in my entire life. But we had to walk him to his house which was like 5 steps away because he literally couldn´t make it. Elder Menjivar and I practically carried him to his house and he told me that he loved me. But after that I told them that that is the perfect example of why we should follow the Word of Wisdom. Tender mercy I would say.
Another thing that happened is we were walking past a bar on the way to an appointment and a drunk dude asked me for some pamphlets but I don´t like to give them out to drunk people because sometimes they use them to smoke weed (terrible but true). But he told me that he was a prophet! And I was like "oh good yale you have got to be kidding me" and then he told me that we were brothers and I humbly agreed. Then he shook my hand then hugged me and then he grabbed my head and kissed my forehead and told me that I was clean of my sins. I thanked him for his mercy on a sinner like me and everybody that watched laughed. Good crap.
That was pretty much it. For P Day we did The Amazing Race and it was so much fun! I wish i had time to tell you all about it because it was so funny and my team won! Anyways things are good. I am really stressed but I´m doing better. Anyways love you and miss you! Email me!
I had to climb down into a well for one of my investigators to retrieve their buckets that they dropped down there! It was scary but fun. the entire time I was thinking about the movie The Ring and I expected a dead girl at the bottom of the well to grab me.
Elder Menjivar took nearly 30 pictures of it because it was night time and they didn´t have flash lights so he had to use the flash from my camera to illuminate the well! It made things a thousand times more scary! Every flash I expected that creepy girl to be looking at me from the bottom of the well.
I asked Bryson to give me a story of how the Holy Ghost has comforted him because I have to give a talk on that subject in Sacrament Meeting this week. Here is his response (I cried like a baby):
So my first week in the field I got so freaking sick! It was conference sunday and I couldn´t understand any of the talks and I had a way high fever and the worst headache of all time! During the conference I started throwing up and every thirty minutes I had to leave to throw up. So finally they just had me sleep on a bench outside so I could throw up.
Then we went home so I could rest and I continued to throw up but I was so thirsty! So finally the nurses came and took me to this crappy little apartment (although it was 500 times nicer than my apartment) to put an IV in me. The nurse did not speak any english and I had no idea what to do because I had never needed an IV before. So for some reason she decided to put the needle in my freaking wrist! And you know how scared I am of needles! and she could not find the vein to save her life but decided to go for it anyways which was awesome. Of course she screwed up and she had to do it again! And I was bleeding and nervous and throwing up the whole time! So she tried again and it hurt so bad! And then from the chemicals my body felt like it was on fire form the inside which made the 50000 degree weather even worse.
After that I sat there and I was thinking to myself that there was literally no way that I could do that for two years. I was only thinking about how disappointed you would be when you got the call that I was coming home. The room literally looked dark like there was a shadow that was closing in on me. And I fell asleep trying to figure out how to say in Spanish "Give me the phone so I can tell president Ruiz that I am going home"
Luckily I woke up and I started thinking about Jesus and how he suffered all of my bad feelings and pains and doubts and all of that. And as I thought about that stuff the shadow in the room seemed to retreat. And I finally came out of my self pitty and ate some soup.
I know that it was the Spirit that helped me feel like those problems would pass and that everything would be okay. Another name for the Spirit is The Comforter, but also The Savior has another name of the Comforter as well. For me they both helped me in this experience, The Spirit by giving me the will power and the feelings of comfort in order to come out of my self pitty and Jesus because I knew that he already suffered what I suffered and also that He knew that I could get through it. And here I am 6 months later having the time of my life (like the song).
