Week #10

Dang yeah I forgot to tell you that I want more jello! That was so good! Anyways I have no idea what I want. More ties that arent silk would be good I guess! Ties are always good! Oh and some
Crew forming cream! Im almost out! The crew forming cream is expensive so if you want to do that then that is fine! And straight up candy! I freaking love candy!
So  yeah this week seemed like it was going to b really good! We had interviews with the President which was good! Also we set a record for our zone this month! A record low! we had the worst month of Zona Retalhuleu of all time. We had a weak 4 baptisms in the entire zone! We got talked to by the President and i realized I got to stop complaining. I've just got to help.  But I realized that we just need to figure out how to work harder and be more obedient. But this is good! I just need to change!
Anyways it was an alright week. El Codo was freaking crazy because they have bikes in El Codo! Its the only zone in the mission that has them and it was so much fun to ride the bikes but I got so muddy and almost died! I was ridding down this hill in El Codo at like 730 at night and there are no lights in El Codo. But anyways Im riding and they have these stupid speed bumps that they literally just randomly put in to try to kill people who dont have lights who are riding on the road at night. Anyways so I of course didnt see the bump and I almost ate the road! I was going 9999999 million miles an hour on the road when i hit the bump but I didnt fall! Anyways I forgot my camera again! So Ill show you the pictures of the house in el codo! we had to shower with the buckets because they dont have showers. But yeah It was awesome there.
So we had 6 awesome progressing investigators this week. But I swear Satan knows when we are at our most hopeful because he totally destroys all of our hope at that time! Carlos and Blanca were all excited about church and we had a bunch of activites this week to try to get them excited to go to church and we were teaching them and helping them with their chores around the house and everything and then came Saturday and I just knew before we walked into their hut that it was over! Im serious the spirit tells you when you need to drop investigators. And that night they seemed way different. Anyways we went back on Sunday to get them and they of course didnt come so we dropped them yesterday which was hard because we put a lot of time in to them and they really loved us. But that means no baptizms this week again.
Our other investigators need to get married before we baptize them and I never see this happening so that leaves us with one investagator named Gilberto. He is the only one that I have confidence in. He has a wife who was a miembro of the church and she died and he has 3 kids who are members too! anyways he came up to me the other day while we were teaching some other people and told me that he had read some of the Book of Mormon that I gave him and told me that he wanted to be baptized because he read 2 Nefi! So I feel good about him and hopefully on the 7th we can get him baptized but he needs to come to church with us.
We had one guy come to church with us yesterday named Teodoro and that was nice but he needs to get divorced and remarried to the person that he is living with before he gets baptized so that is never going to happen in my time in the mission because the process is so bad here so we cant do much with him.
Anyways it was a rough week. We need to find more people to teach because we only have really one really good investigator right now. So its rough but hopefully as we work harder and obey the rules we will be blessed with more success.
Also how are the Pirates doing and when is Ben coming back?!
I love you and miss you.  Love you! Email me soon!

Week #9

It was an awesome week but ended in total heartbreak! So Ill answer your questions first. Members are feeding us but dont worry it is the best food ever as long as you dont eat the bones. My shoes are awesome. Vides has 6 and a half months. A woman in the ward does my laundy so beautifully for 125 Quetzales a month.
So vides has chickengunya I dont know how to spell it. So this week he was like dying the whole week and it was hard to get working. Anyways luckily we had changes for 3 days so I was with the zone leader Elder Ellsworth this week. Elder Ellsworth is incredible and the biggest spaz of all time but he knows how to abrir las boca. So we got 9 new investigators but only like 1 is really promising. This one day we walked down this street and every house we contacted they let us in and allowed us to teach them a lesson which qualifies them as new investigadores. So Ellsworth has these awesome tactics that I love. He went to a meeting this week where Elder Alonzo of the 70 spoke. Elder Alonzo is a legend who baptised like 200 on his misison every month he had 10 or more. Anyways he has this tactic where you just ask the people if we can say a prayer with them to bless their house and they just love it! We tired it on this one guy and he has the flu so in the prayer we blessed his health and he started crying! So we taught him the restoration and he liked it even though he is evangelico. Also we go up to people and tell them that we are looking for jhonny Ruiz (the name of our mission president) and we say that he doesnt have a religion and want to teach him about Jesus Christ. And they always say no and then we end up teaching them. It is so brilliant!
So also this week the main highlight of my week. We have a family that we have been teaching pretty much ever since I got to the field. They are the poorest family that we teach. The parents work every day including Sunday which is hard because we cant really baptize them if they dont go to church. So we focus on their two oldest kids: Blanca y Carlos. So we´ve been teaching them for a while and finally we set a sure date for their baptism on the 24th. The parents were fine with it and the kids seemed excited and nervous which is good. But they had to come to church with us yesterday. So they live in the farthest house in our area so we woke up early to go get them to come to church at 8 with us. Saturday night I was getting all excited! I was reading how to baptize in Spanish and fasting that they would come with us. So we walk all the way out to Flamanco and it was raining just a little. We get to their house and chat with their parents and we finally we´re about to leave with the kids and the dad says that they cant come because of the rain!!!!!!! And my first thought was ´´what a pisser´´ I was about to strangle M!!!!! It was barely raining! I was all like I have an umbrella and panchos! But he said no! I walked away from that house so mad at the world. I literally hated everyone in the world. I was depressed for like half the day. By heart was broken! I was so set on baptizing them on the 24th. Anyways we get to church and there was 5 people! last week there was like 100! I guess the rain is a big deal for Guatemalans. But yeah I was so angry! I was so mad! I was all like ´´God! Dont you want them to get baptized?! Why did you let it rain?´´ Anyways I repented and felt better. But if they attend church next week we can baptize them on halloween! Make sure to include the what a pisser part for Garet Hammond.
Anyways it was still a good week that ended bad. So today I walked into McDonalds and saw freaking that play by Martavis Bryant! It was so sick! Im so happy the Steelers and killing! and last week! Sounded awesome! I love some good Steelers football! Im gald Bryant is back! we need ben though! And Bell seems to be killing it as usual! Good crap. Tell the Bengals to go kill themselves.
Anyways the toilet broke! The flusher broke so I have to reach in the top tank and manually lift the hatch thing! Also in half the places we go to you have to throw away the toilet paper in a trash can next to the toilet. It is weird.
One of our recent converts´ dogs just had babies while I was there! It was live birth! I took pictures but I let my camera at home so I will send them next week.
We watched this awesome movie today for p day. It is The Cokeville Miracle! It was so touching! I started crying! Anyways angels are totally real! Who do the Steelers play next week? Love you! Email me soon!
Pienso que yo puedo hacer Skype con ustedes en la 24 y no en Navidad. No tengo no idea. Pero yo  notificar√© les.

Week #8

So first off I lost my wallet so I have no money! Just send me a personal card whenever. I dont really need a personal card right now. But yeah that sucks!
Anyways this week was kind of rough! We had to drop a family because they are really Evangelica which is hard but they think dancing and singing and makeup and earrings and like everything that doesnt have to do with church is of Satan so they think our Church is really crazy for having actividades for the kids and stuff. We dropped two more as well. Kathy and Elma. I wasnt too sad because Kathy was a freaking snake and she never cared about our message. She wasnt ready. But her mom Elma I was really sad about! She was such a sweet lady.
I came up on a challange that I never antiicipated this week! I forgot like nobody can read here! We have two investigadores who I taught them about the book of mormon and then challenged them to read it and then Elder Vides was like shut up the whole time! Because they cant read! Its crazy! They investigadores are Teodoro and Juana and Teodoro is the father of a member and he lives in this little shack with his girlfriend Juana. They are pretty much married but they arent leagally because nobody likes matrimonio here. They accepted a baptism date for the 24 but they are pretty lazy and it will be hard to get them to church just like every person here! But I like them so hopefully the progress.
We found a new family this week though! They are awesome! I realized that every lesson that we teach, the people agree with everything we say because everything we say makes sense and is true so they are all like yeah man we need 12 apostles and a prophet just like in Jesus' time but then they are all like ''well I like my church'' I dont get these people! They understand that the church is true! They just dont care about nothing! Its so hard.
Vides was sick this week so we had a crap fest week for work. We taught 22 lessons which sucks. We set our goal for 42 and thats what we need to do to convert anyone! Anyways hopefully this week is better! It will be I think! Yesterday on our way to an appointment, 3 girls stopped Vides and I. They were washing their clothes in the river. But one of them said that her whole family is Mormon and wants to go to church! She is 20 with a 6 year old daughter but Im so happy that she came up to us. The other girls were her cousns and they want to learn more too! It was so great! It is never that easy to find new people! So hopefully our lesson goes well tomorrow. We should probably not start with Chastity ha ha!
So I went on divisions with the zone leader on Wednesday! It was awesome! We were teaching a lesson to a guy whose baby died after only two days and he was talking about how Jesus helped him through. He is Catholic. But right as he was sharing about his baby, this freaking gordito named Alex walks in! He is a memeber of the church and we were teaching at the church. But he is like 12 years old, 5'0'' and probably weighs 200 pounds. Anyways he walks in and we try to shoe him away but then he comes up to the zone leader and says ''Faggot! Donde esta Solorio?'' It was so funny because the kids know only the bad words in English. Then Alex grabs a chair gets up all close to the investigator and takes his pamphlet and starts tapping on the table! He totally drove out the Spirit which sucks. But it was a good story.
It rained really bad in our area yesterday! the streets were rivers and I got so wet but I loved it! Ill try to send pictures today. We have to email and these ghetto places that have the crappiest computers! We went paintballing today as a zone and that was fun! We went to like this crazy movie themed place and they had like a diarahma of Vanhalen! Ill show you pictures.Anyways I got to go! Love you! ill talk to you later! Bye!
It doesnt look like a lot but on the paved roads it was literally almost impossible to walk through!

The ward mission leader found a bunch of kittens on the street they are so cute

And a vaca. (cow) Also that road is in the part of the area called Flamenco! I love the place!

and also David lee roth is one of these pictures

the view from the bathroom is the volcano

Week 7-1st week in the field

So the field is way awesome! I love this place! My companion is from El Salvador! His name is Elder Vides! Our area is right in the middle of Reu kind of. I could not believe it when we went into our apartment! It was the most disgusting thing that I have ever seen! But appearently it is really nice! The first day we taught a couple lessons and Vides introduced me to some of the people in the ward and some investigators. It was really cool but I didnt understand crap so that really sucked! But the next day was way better! We taught like 7 lessons and found 4 new investigators and it was like the greatest thing of all time!
So our area is really small but it has a ton of memebers. Its an area called Pamalita and it is so nice! The people are all incredible and so freaking poor its unbelievable! I got over the culture shock in like a day I think and then I felt a little better. People have houses that are literally tin boards that they just threw together but they are so wonderful and humble. It rains every day at 3 and it is way nice because the rest of the day is a lot cooler. We have a more wealthy area which is nice because I dont think I could handle anything more poor for my first area. There are these creepy ace lizards that crawl on our roof every day in the morning and they always wake me up!
Also there is a guy who I met who went to woodscross I cant remember his first name but his last name is Elgreen. Hes pretty cool. Anyways Yeah it is always hot here and there are so many dogs here! They are all pretty cute and most of them are pets but they just run around the streets. I havent had any problems with them yet!
So yesterday I got really sick. I threw up 8 times and literally have to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes! It was rough because we were trying to get all of our people to get to conference which means we had to walk around our whole area. Conference was in Spanish so I didnt understand much but I saw they called Elder Renlund! My farewell talk was based on his talk from April. So that was cool but I was throwing up during conference all day yesterday so it probably wouldnt have mattered if it was in English. But yeah they ended up taking me to the doctors yesterday or I guess she is a nurse but one of nurses if from Bountiful! her name is Hermana Powell. But they gave me an IV and screwed up the first time and I almost passed out and threw up for like 5 minutes straight. They she did the IV again and it hurt so freaking bad. If it was only Latinos in that house I would have said every english swearword that I new but Hermana Powell was there so I couldnt. But I feel better today even though I have straight liquid coming out of my butt.
Anyways its been an alright week for my first week. The second and third days were really good because we taught a lot. Elder Vides is awesome. I want to baptize some people! Today we had a paint fight and a water balloon fight with our zone and another zone in Rio Bravo. So that was fun! P days are really nice. I have to go back into the city tongiht to get my visa so its going to be a long night! But its all good!
Ill send you some pictures of the view from our apartment and the apartment and some dogs and other stuff. One of the pictures of five missionaries is at the mission home and its me, my trainer, his trainer, and his trainer and someother random guy on the right. but the one second from the right is leaving so its like 4 generations of missionaries kind of. Its hard to explain. But anyways Im doing great and seriously it is heaven here! I love Guatemala. Hopefully in a couple weeks we have some baptizims! Love you!

These mattresses are disgusting!!

I'm dying as a mom, I can't believe he lives there!!

I think this towel is the "door" to the toilet room

Some more answer to questions and replies that Bryson sent:
*Its also one of the nicest appartments in the mission! Its insane! We have running water! But its freezing cold in the morning! Its all cold there is no hot water! But its cool! Also they dont have water bottles here! They have baggs of water!
*No the bags are pure water i accidently ate a bone because I didnt want do be rude and spit it out my first day! it ws crazy!
*Im probably sick from petting all the cute dogs ha ha! I had a fever of 102! It was crazy
*I have santitizer! I lost one of the bottle and that day is the day I got sick so it might be that! My immune system just needs to be more Latino! Also everyone thinks Im from a Latin country and not from America!
*Ill tell you about my investigators real quick! So we found a family of 7 people the other day! They dont have a relgion and they want a relgion so that is perfect! They live in this really sketchy area called Flamanco and it is pretty far out from our area.their names are Miguel, Maria, Blanca, Carlos, Maria, Ozwaldo, Juan, and I cant remember the other grils name. But only the parents and Blanca and Carlos are old enough to be baptized. We took Blanca to mutual so hopefull they progress. We have a bunch of others but it would take a while for me to write about all of them! But hopefully we have baptisims soon!
